Course Content

Level 1: Foundations (10 Weeks)

Target Group: New learners (ages 7+)

Goals:

  • Build a vocabulary base of 40–60 essential words
  • Learn the alphabet, numbers 1–20, colors, greetings, and simple questions
  • Practice basic phrases for introductions and everyday communication
  • Develop fingerspelling skills in ASL and phonetic awareness in Spanish

Sample Activities:

  • ASL: Name games, fingerspelling, “Sign the Color” challenge
  • Spanish: Color sorting, “¿Cómo te llamas?” practice
Level 2: Everyday Communication (10 Weeks)

Target Group: Learners with basic vocabulary or who have completed Level 1

Goals:

  • Expand vocabulary to 100+ words
  • Learn about family members, body parts, foods, feelings, and weather
  • Build simple sentences and question/answer structure
  • Practice ASL classifiers and spatial referencing

Sample Activities:

  • ASL: Emotion roleplay using facial expressions
  • Spanish:  “Mi familia” storytelling
Level 3: Conversation & Comprehension (10–12 Weeks)

Target Group: Intermediate learners
Goals:

  • Develop basic conversational fluency

  • Practice listening and comprehension through short videos/stories

  • Engage in real-world scenarios (shopping, school, church, etc.)

  • Explore cultural aspects: Deaf culture and Spanish-speaking countries

Sample Activities:

  • ASL: Create a “day in the life” video in sign language

  • Spanish: Dialogue role-play: ordering at a restaurant

Level 4: Fluency & Purpose (Ongoing – Custom Focus)

Target Group: Advanced learners or returning students

Goals:

  • Increase speed, accuracy, and expression in Spanish and/or ASL
  • Dive into culturally rich topics: storytelling, holidays, and testimonies
  • Study topics learned in both languages
  • Prepare for practical use at home, school, and any social settings

Sample Activities:
